Why are you running?

It’s pretty inevitable that moms are going to run, though it might be rare that we get to do it just for the heck (health) of it. We’re chasing toddlers, dashing through grocery stores, running late to work, or just running out of ideas.

A few weeks ago we received an email from a woman asking if we would be interested in participating in an event to promote the awareness of postpartum depression. The issue of postpartum depression is something that has touched members of SaraBear Company personally, and, as such, is something we are deeply committed to addressing. Late last fall we created a partnership with Postpartum Support International. Each SaraBear diaper caddy produced since December of 2007 has featured a hangtag promoting the awareness of PPD and alerting new moms and those who love them about the resources available to them should they witness or experience symptoms of PPD.

SaraBear Company is over-the-moon to be participating in the Stepping Out of the Darkness 5K Road Race for the Women & Infants Hospital Day Program in Rhode Island next month. The privilege of participating in an event that could help one less mom feel an absence of hope or educate a relative that they can help, is something that makes our hearts soar.

The race is scheduled for May 10th, and while we would love to run, a 4/26 due date and contracts to fulfill with boutiques and department stores, make the trip unrealistic for us – this year! We will be sending along a SaraBear diaper caddy as a prize as well as contributing a monetary donation to help defray the costs associated with putting on an event like this. We couldn’t be prouder as we imagine the SaraBear paw on the Stepping Out of the Darkness 5K Road Race t-shirts, patting the backs of the amazing people working the event and running the race.

Let’s hear it for the men, women and children who will gather May 10th to shine a light on postpartum depression and offer hope for the women and families who have been or will be touched by PPD.

New Place and a New Face

SaraBear Company has acquired new digs, with a recent move to the city. All things being relative, Glens Falls is just 3 square miles, but it is indeed a city. Our new offices are located on Glen Street, joining a neighborhood rich with fascinating, creative, playful, locally owned businesses.

The move has facilitated the management of all the logistics (read spreading out and forecasting shipping, production and orders for SaraBear diaper caddies throughout the United States, Canada and the UK). This blog, new patterns and a planned website launch of June 2008 all add up to a spring filled with change.

Soaring ceilings, exposed brick walls, sun drenched windows and plenty of play space throughout make our new SaraBear home a dreamy place to work. Lately the space has been filled with music courtesy of a slightly eccentric local radio station. Our toes have tapped to everything from Eddie Murphy singing My Girlfriend Likes to Party All the Time, to Fergie’s Clumsy and then back to some catchy Prince number or another.

Kicking right along to the music is a the soon-to-be-newest member of SaraBear, a little girl due April 26th.

We are excited to have the sounds of another little one, as our collective brood includes a rock climbing six year old (the SaraBear namesake), a princess adoring 3.5 year old, a truck vrooming 2.5 year old, and a gadget fascinated almost two year old (the model on the SaraBear packaging). Stay tuned for photos and a name!
